Firm roots in Yorkshire
Jacksons Funeral Services has been involved in the funeral profession for over 100 years, providing an infrastructure of support for the local community. We’re a division of Jacksons of Silsden, a family business founded by Thomas Jackson in 1904. The company is now owned and operated by the fourth generation of his family.
Expansion to the funeral directing business in the year 2000 with the acquisition of David Brook Funeral Services allowed the company to use the experience gained over many years to provide a personal, professional and caring service. The original trading name of Emmott & Bradley was reintroduced, and in 2013 the chapel of rest was moved to Station Road Cross Hills, to make our services more accessible to clients.
In June 2010 the company bought Whitlock & Craven Funeral Directors of Silsden. The business was incorporated into Jacksons Funeral Services and a new, purpose designed premises was opened on Bolton Road, Silsden.
Today we have four locations, our head office and chapel of rest in Silsden, our Ilkley office and our branch in Cross Hills, providing discreet, convenient solutions to our customers.
David J Thornton
Funeral Director, Dip FD MBIFD
David was born in Silsden and is a director of the company. He qualified as a funeral director in 2012 and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the funeral operation. Keeping it in the family, David is the great-grandson of the company founder, Tom Jackson. Away from work, David enjoys life outdoors and takes a keen interest in his family and local issues.
Andrew Jon Bowness
Funeral Director, Dip FD MBIFD
Andrew was born and bred in Silsden where he still lives with his family. He qualified as a funeral director in 2012, having worked for many years at Emmott & Bradley Funeral Services. Andrew now works between our Silsden and Cross Hills branches.
Hannah Rothwell
Funeral Director
Hannah joined the company in August 2022, she is the daughter of company director David Thornton and the fifth generation of the founder to work for the family business. Hannah, a married mum of two is a keen sports person, playing international rounders for England since the age of 15. Hannah, before working for the family business, worked in elderly care for over 9 years and is pleased to bring this skillset for the care of clients and their loved ones.
Susan Jayne Arthington
Company Secretary
Susan is the great-granddaughter of founder Tom Jackson and has worked for the company for over 30 years. Susan is responsible for all financial administration and accounting and is also involved in day-to-day operational decisions.
Tracy Bowes-Boothman
Administration
Tracy has lived in Silsden all her life. Her role at Jacksons Funeral Services is varied and vital to our operations. Tracy, having worked for many years as a community carer, assists with the care of our female clients, when requested.
